Okay so recently I’ve been invested in my skincare routine, trying out different products and finding out what suited my skin best. I wanted to share my findings out with you all and so I introduce you to #SkinCareSunday where I talk about one of my favorite skin care products and express my thoughts on it (no hard feelings tho). This week we talk about one of the most abandoned kitchen ingredient: Rose Water
For those of you who don’t really know what rose water is, in five words, water mixed with rose extract. Its used for culinary purposes, especially in an Indian cuisine. It is not really talked about in the beauty/skin care industry as much as we would want it to. There are many skincare benefits to rosewater from hydrating the skin to toning it out, rose water might just be a miracle worker.
Rose water contains antioxidant properties that help skin cells to regenerate skin tissues. it also has antibacterial properties that helps to heal scars, (goodbye acne scars!) When applied properly, rose water helps give the skin a hydrated look. So without further ado, here are 3 easy peasy ways to include rose water in your skin care routine.
1. Setting Spray
The easiest way to use rose water is simply just spray it on your face! Grab a spray bottle and fill it with rose water and spritz away! This will leave your skin looking radiant. Use it in the morning to brighten up and freshen your skin or use it before bed for some night time repair!
There are Rose Water facial sprays on the market if you are looking to invest in some rather than DIY.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray
This $11 CAD has been on the market for ages. It works great as a facial spray, works amazing to add hydration and a setting spray! Best of all, its affordable! Definitely one of my favorite rose water sprays on the market.
2. Facial Toner
Rose water works magic when it comes to toning the face and balancing out the pH level. Toners are an amazing way to even out the skin and tighten the pores.
Wet a cotton round with chilled rose water and dab it onto your face after cleansing in the morning, or night before bed.
My favourite rosewater toner to use is the Leven Rose Pure and Organic Rose Water. Its a little bit on the pricey side ($20 CAD) but that may be because it is 100% pure and organic.
3. Makeup Remover
Using rose water to remove makeup will change your skincare routine. Rose water in an of itself will not remove makeup completely so its important to mix the rosewater to an oil of your choice. This will not only cleanse your skin but nourish it as well. It will add hydration, not to mention a beautiful rose smell to your skin.
Mix a few drops of oil of your choice (mine is coconut oil) to chilled rosewater on a cotton round and wipe the makeup right off. Remember to be gentle when rubbing (you don’t wanna hurt your skin!)
If you’re not looking to DIY a rosewater makeup remover, there are many varieties you can get off the shelve. My ultimate ultimate favourite makeup remover of all time is the Garnier SkinActive Water Rose Micellar Cleansing Water.
This $9 CAD drugstore makeup remover contains rose water (just a little amount) but does still have the rose fragrance. This makeup remover, like any other Micelllar cleansing water removes makeup right away, with no need for rinsing later on.
So that is it for today’s post! Have you ever tried RoseWater in your skincare routine? Have you tried any of these products? Let me know in the comments below!!
